Q:
"If I send my children to your church and they 'get saved,' are you going to force them to join your congregation?"
A:
Absolutely not. At Southwood Baptist Church, we ALWAYS counsel with children who have made such decisions and with their parents. God allowed these children to be brought into your household and we always respect the wishes of parents. Christianity is not a "cult." It is a "relationship" with Our Maker. We don't prey on the minds of innocent children and then hold them 'hostage' in our church family, as some cults do. We see your children as Christ did…precious.
Q:
"I've been in another church before, but I wasn't dunked in water. Are you going to make me get baptized even though I was a church member somewhere else?"
A:
"Baptism" isn't what saves one's soul. Jesus Christ's spilled blood at the cross, and our acceptance of that gift to cover our own sins, is what saves us. Baptism is sign of our OBEDIENCE. The Bible tells us to be baptised. Even Jesus, who never sinned in His life, set an example for us by being baptised in a river by his cousin, John. At Southwood, we fully immerse those wishing to profess their faith with public baptism.
Q:
"What are your church services like?"
A:
We are a unique body of believers at Southwood. Some might say we worship in a "nostalgic" manner because very few churches still sing hymns, songs of patriotism, have a Bible-believing preacher who WILL step on your toes if you're out of God's will, believe The Bible as God's Word and teach ALL of it, sing Gospel music, have get-togethers that are old-fashioned (like "ice cream socials"), and so forth. If you miss the days when churches held services in that way, you'll love Southwood Baptist Church.
Q:
"Do you dismiss church services, or move them, for the Super Bowl? I'm an avid fan and don't want to miss that big event."
A:
Never. In fact, our pastor takes exception to ANYTHING in the world (soccer games, National Football League football, etc.) which CHOOSES to set up their events in direct competition with the time traditionally set aside to rest in God and worship Him on "The Lord's Day." You will find us, as always, holding church services at their NORMAL time on Super Bowl Sunday. Count on it. We want to show the world we have no other gods besides The One in Heaven. Likewise, we don't "shift" our service times the day of the Super Bowl, as many churches do today, to accommodate the pre-game and event itself. Isn't that what Tivo, video recording, and the like, are good for?
